Pt. I<p><i>"It may not look like much, but to us, it's home..."</i> Gertrude, servant at the local tavern</p><p>So, welcome to Scopperloit! The inhabitants of this small but ever growing town are called Scobberlotchers and fill their days with typical NPC stuff. This town could be situated just about anywhere, and it probably will be... For the forseeable future I can see these buildings being used in our current D&D campaign and in my first adventures as a DM...</p><p>A couple of months ago I purchased a FDM 3D-printer, so now I am the proud owner/user of a Creality CR-10S Pro V2! Apart from adding a magnetic and flexible build plate the machine is still stock. I did have to replace my heat block, but that's because I am an incompetent fool...</p><p>One of the reasons I wanted a FDM printer was the ability to print larger buildings and terrain in 28mm scale. So far I have focussed on printing scatter terrain for D&D and Warhammer 40K. </p><p>For a larger and more complex project, I want to build (part of) a Fantasy town...</p><p>There is a huge quantity of different designs available. I have found several designers that had some buildings I liked, but I really wanted a comlete range of buildings in a good Medieval/Fantasy style so I would be able to print several buildings for a small town, ideally without spending my entire hobby budget... </p><p>To be able to compare designers, I mainly looked at Taverns/Inns because, whatever the setting, every range worth it's salt at least includes a tavern of sorts... The buildings needed to be modular and have detailed interiors, but preferably without having fixed furniture as I have plenty of that already. Besides, smaller details print better in resin and are easier to paint when not fused to the inside of a building. </p><p>While browsing, I found <a href="https://www.3dlayeredscenery.com/" target="_blank">3Dlayeredscenery</a> and decided to check out their Leichheim set. I originally found them through their <a href="https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-leichheim-kickstarter-teaser-model-medieval-citizen-s-building-140272" target="_blank">free sample on MMF</a>, you should totally check that out...</p><p>The set is, simply put, vast and represents incredible value for your money... There are several more or less generic dwellings/houses and numerous specialist buildings, most of these are quite large. Some of the buildings can be combined into larger structures and feature some customization options.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCM1Y9cFiXD85tAFt45dkU06piMSvoRftToNqvCXCNDZA9yqBm5PqV13qJGhpSfy4cXyD8PqnT57_nHMgdQsVS6HHLP165fauDUFnZfrftwfTk2SC_eJC_k124BHldWZgGjU6CO_IVhA/s1600/Smallmarket.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCM1Y9cFiXD85tAFt45dkU06piMSvoRftToNqvCXCNDZA9yqBm5PqV13qJGhpSfy4cXyD8PqnT57_nHMgdQsVS6HHLP165fauDUFnZfrftwfTk2SC_eJC_k124BHldWZgGjU6CO_IVhA/w400-h400/Smallmarket.png" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The smallmarket shop...</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>To get started I opted for one of the smaller designs (as can be seen above). While relatively small, printing this shop already took me almost six whole days (I might have to look into the printing speed). However, that time was well worth it! The level of detail is just great; the texture of the wood and the stones will make this little shop very easy to paint. The fit of the different parts is also very good.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNk4p8y26nQsOgRazmUuZrfaqxN0MOywx64eBczL1IBCfY8tBfamhrLQ3r0pNSR4GW9vbCseQHNVlCUq4XoqGjiT1oME6LaVuVzSb8X_zJyc4kg7vXnU5vx0aNFR7ETRdaFOL8_0GOLw/s4624/20211122_205435.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNk4p8y26nQsOgRazmUuZrfaqxN0MOywx64eBczL1IBCfY8tBfamhrLQ3r0pNSR4GW9vbCseQHNVlCUq4XoqGjiT1oME6LaVuVzSb8X_zJyc4kg7vXnU5vx0aNFR7ETRdaFOL8_0GOLw/w300-h400/20211122_205435.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpSnFaGOphKpNkpEEK8n3hvyvNtspfuyVAXatc2YrqKTRsphDsNbaG6mx9PehmV1b3a1jvv_WSCKi5EQs6EE7P5DG_Fa2lbaDcpiYZafFVb1D1PZNrCXcjU1mqiLWiX_4fISDfd2j6Gw/s4624/20211122_205439.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpSnFaGOphKpNkpEEK8n3hvyvNtspfuyVAXatc2YrqKTRsphDsNbaG6mx9PehmV1b3a1jvv_WSCKi5EQs6EE7P5DG_Fa2lbaDcpiYZafFVb1D1PZNrCXcjU1mqiLWiX_4fISDfd2j6Gw/w300-h400/20211122_205439.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSlKY2VudnKsl7s3HMzfKY3E-G3BM8Rcu-NgrB9qkjzMGq47p8LKWVdBrnm_EqDXnTjSbciaVzcfKw4D2TjkDjVnVGexxoP-f5l5rVcIYBkdprC-MIE5cw9GPLLrnWnkU6dtqJ-sYcJQ/s4624/20211122_205430.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSlKY2VudnKsl7s3HMzfKY3E-G3BM8Rcu-NgrB9qkjzMGq47p8LKWVdBrnm_EqDXnTjSbciaVzcfKw4D2TjkDjVnVGexxoP-f5l5rVcIYBkdprC-MIE5cw9GPLLrnWnkU6dtqJ-sYcJQ/w300-h400/20211122_205430.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">This building comes split in three different parts (ground floor, first floor and roof). Pt. III<p>After printing a couple of houses and farms to replace my scratch-built foam buildings (more on that in another post) I figured I might as well update the rest of my scenery, too...</p><p>First up are my trees... Since no battlefield is complete without at least a few trees and my table measures 220x160cm I ended up having more than a few... My trees are split between single based trees and forest bases. A quick count yielded almost 30 forest bases and at least as many individual trees. </p><p>Safe to say, I like my WW2 battlefields green, and for most of my games, I put all my trees on the board. </p><p>A few months ago I picked up a set of trees to print as scatter terrain for D&D. Great looking Fantasy trees, suitably twisted and gnarly. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy93iE-KLjzJgnb7fanZdUm_8Dhyv5bfBTVcCf8ITOTkf7pdFyx6gccbIeD9h1MwIKlfnjaWB7afRBtikCCMHe3J0XhR3tePd104gBky3FWnYF1RwL5BhoAqrV-Iy0WUgzh60jLS6gEQ/s4624/20210911_082233.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1794" data-original-width="4624" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy93iE-KLjzJgnb7fanZdUm_8Dhyv5bfBTVcCf8ITOTkf7pdFyx6gccbIeD9h1MwIKlfnjaWB7afRBtikCCMHe3J0XhR3tePd104gBky3FWnYF1RwL5BhoAqrV-Iy0WUgzh60jLS6gEQ/w400-h155/20210911_082233.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The full set... These trees are meant to serve as scatter terrain for our D&D sessions, and the canopies would only get in the way and block our view of the board.<br /><p>One of the many benefits of digital designs is that you can scale them any way you wish... I cut a bit of the bottom of the trees to remove the wide base of the trunk and made them a lot thinner. These trees are part of a Fantasy range of models and are thus scaled heroically (is that even a word?), by which I mean their shapes and measurements are slightly exaggerated, so to fit in with 15mm Historical terrain they needed some tweaking. </p><p>I ended up with this set...</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvtWGUryGmXlT1x13lGi0Ox0BGkx-tKjplAmTmT_tmhd2Qj2hucbKegq5Z9_Ay4n989xsP_xX4L9jFFQoC05nMShaSgA8Zeh5PrZ0-zMDGYWPGdFAcOqFcqrOwBngLUrwm3U79eiyWwA/s4624/20211112_205848.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="4624" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvtWGUryGmXlT1x13lGi0Ox0BGkx-tKjplAmTmT_tmhd2Qj2hucbKegq5Z9_Ay4n989xsP_xX4L9jFFQoC05nMShaSgA8Zeh5PrZ0-zMDGYWPGdFAcOqFcqrOwBngLUrwm3U79eiyWwA/w400-h300/20211112_205848.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>This batch represents four full plates on my Elegoo MARS. For these teams I designed a tube containing a rocket, which I included in a special backpack and carrying bag. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq3J75KvruU9y2KGj4RRfW96Ia8MHDPMF4tWxBTQlatIzoJFGKydZ6XnHU79vHRJ0AjyGCQz4qtQZ5asc5rvgHWnFC6fPoSxcx1DZ_Ucumyl8rPjJO1J-eo98jhtX_idiJ8VRExggdOA/s3890/20211025_215540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2804" data-original-width="3890" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq3J75KvruU9y2KGj4RRfW96Ia8MHDPMF4tWxBTQlatIzoJFGKydZ6XnHU79vHRJ0AjyGCQz4qtQZ5asc5rvgHWnFC6fPoSxcx1DZ_Ucumyl8rPjJO1J-eo98jhtX_idiJ8VRExggdOA/w400-h289/20211025_215540.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio3OyehLTRgFKb-qGNSjyJM54gbCJ6VibUf_38-HT4IMMq9OjrvUCBsLLbapUGU7JI97wUN6b0MgRg1ikc_tXN-OI64y2z2Pxxx4P1hUCInfFSCnpIfgVl8iaEaWuAfNSfHyou-AwBiA/s3654/20211025_214841.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3108" data-original-width="3654" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio3OyehLTRgFKb-qGNSjyJM54gbCJ6VibUf_38-HT4IMMq9OjrvUCBsLLbapUGU7JI97wUN6b0MgRg1ikc_tXN-OI64y2z2Pxxx4P1hUCInfFSCnpIfgVl8iaEaWuAfNSfHyou-AwBiA/w400-h340/20211025_214841.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>The choice for the missile launcher is mostly based on looks, I like the way it resembles a panzershreck; I think it fits well with the theme of the army... A lot of different things, actually... </p><p>First up, I have purchased two new 3D-printers... After my two Elegoo MARS, the larger Elegoo SATURN is a proper upgrade; the larger print volume gives a lot more options. I also picked up a FDM-printer: A Creality CR-10S Pro V2... Having a FDM-printer with a large print surface, allows me to print bigger pieces of scenery. My printer prints at a very nice quality, mind you, it can't compare to resin, but for scenery or terrain it's perfect! It might not be faster, but the ability to print bigger makes all the difference, and that it's cheaper is a bonus, too.</p><p>I have printed a whole lot of resin 15mm buildings for my Flames of War scenery. Most of these still have to be painted, but my table now has a proper village. Even better, my friend and neighbour has been busy building and painting two whole armies and together we have been playing some games. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigJkZiDzHhgPbOAPjnotUsmYRT7voJFquTRQTNQgCEDxrlR2fNr3G1xNruyHbA7dQj-KyieSd2-Sj-MUspMiTEe6a3JYCkCMzbxFUQZY9jwMn9hnAw6TvmCFZe9gk_8YMhJh2Xy36y9g/s4624/20210524_134901.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="4624" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigJkZiDzHhgPbOAPjnotUsmYRT7voJFquTRQTNQgCEDxrlR2fNr3G1xNruyHbA7dQj-KyieSd2-Sj-MUspMiTEe6a3JYCkCMzbxFUQZY9jwMn9hnAw6TvmCFZe9gk_8YMhJh2Xy36y9g/w400-h300/20210524_134901.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Well, maybe not a proper village yet. Most of his models are absolutely free and, most important, very good! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4tNowSpuwJdNamsk01a8tOdkDP0u1cQ1rmCaFYtPLV7Yx5YN61r9DPM3Ra8balOqjfWAPi4CRI7gqILZKI7k36TFH20d6XlWiEOLrR3anQ_m-zRfZ8hrIzoK3baiPd_YsynzDzZgLYA/s4624/20211003_204852.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="4624" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4tNowSpuwJdNamsk01a8tOdkDP0u1cQ1rmCaFYtPLV7Yx5YN61r9DPM3Ra8balOqjfWAPi4CRI7gqILZKI7k36TFH20d6XlWiEOLrR3anQ_m-zRfZ8hrIzoK3baiPd_YsynzDzZgLYA/w400-h300/20211003_204852.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIgc71omVx6BJ9IMD1Z1HcK2PVj-e5mgv4p9i7gJW5Bb0bhUUO4l7NzDlDF99ADGa8POAzltsLGTFrdGZk0DTntRT709vm_g9EzyBMBqqDdMePo1P6dnRWPCwM-YwLOg1X5_Q-RJnTfw/s4624/20210926_213038.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="4624" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIgc71omVx6BJ9IMD1Z1HcK2PVj-e5mgv4p9i7gJW5Bb0bhUUO4l7NzDlDF99ADGa8POAzltsLGTFrdGZk0DTntRT709vm_g9EzyBMBqqDdMePo1P6dnRWPCwM-YwLOg1X5_Q-RJnTfw/w400-h300/20210926_213038.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Two of the full plate armoured suits...</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOdP3GeODj9KDnLI2A5ykbHa7cWZka4wagItdZVO1zBpY49-LJMPvSKxEWHaUIrWJTGBO6EC7-Ej6DMBs_1MmpDSO4lNEXviy-za93gOGCcVmzTLfZVJSn_q_7jojr4kuUgEz2OIxIUw/s4624/20210918_180817.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="4624" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOdP3GeODj9KDnLI2A5ykbHa7cWZka4wagItdZVO1zBpY49-LJMPvSKxEWHaUIrWJTGBO6EC7-Ej6DMBs_1MmpDSO4lNEXviy-za93gOGCcVmzTLfZVJSn_q_7jojr4kuUgEz2OIxIUw/w400-h300/20210918_180817.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A painted example of one of his designs... </td></tr></tbody></table><p style="text-align: left;">After the set of armoured suits I asked him to design my D&D character: Gabnast, a Gnome Ranger wielding a heavy crossbow...</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYQmntSRemUP434-WYRFmZFTwN9thwRYdakljv4ROzLBGjZMqRmdt_h2gwuGSUwetXSHCMXG3f2W8BbUGEjtPgK7L8VGX8JtKDVzAKBkGXduaSiJz3Rne5kcyUDu_-gtt-O1gQCnFDhQ/s984/Gab.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="817" data-original-width="984" height="333" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYQmntSRemUP434-WYRFmZFTwN9thwRYdakljv4ROzLBGjZMqRmdt_h2gwuGSUwetXSHCMXG3f2W8BbUGEjtPgK7L8VGX8JtKDVzAKBkGXduaSiJz3Rne5kcyUDu_-gtt-O1gQCnFDhQ/w400-h333/Gab.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Meet Gabnast 'the bullfrog' Millwop... </td></tr></tbody></table><p>Speaking of D&D... VII<p>While it has been a while since I last worked on my dungeon, the project is never quite forgotten... I am always looking around for stuff to add, especially things like furniture and other clutter. This update was written back in December '20, but I totally forgot posting it...</p><p>I had already found a few great designs on Thingiverse by <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/ecaroth/designs" target="_blank">Ecaroth</a> and <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/curufin/designs" target="_blank">Curufin</a>. One of my very first prints was this <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2860889" target="_blank">Large Cask Shelf</a>. I have since printed several of these and recently finished painting them.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/6thPmNp/20210101-153446.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="226" src="https://i.ibb.co/6thPmNp/20210101-153446.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>A set of simple pieces, but I like them very much! This piece is part of the <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/ecaroth/collections/dwarven-aleworks" target="_blank">Aleworks collection</a> and this week I printed some of the other parts of the set... </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/kg6y2m4/20210101-153546.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/kg6y2m4/20210101-153546.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Scaled down a bit to fit on the plate of my Elegoo MARS, this is a very big piece of Dungeon furniture. I tried to add a bit of variety by using three different shades of brown for the wooden containers. </p><p>There are more pieces to the set, but these aren't painted yet... All these pieces combined make for a nice-looking brewing system</p><p>These designs then directed me to their website <a href="https://www.heroshoard.com/generic-fantasy" target="_blank">Hero's Hoard</a>. I picked up both the Tavern sets and the Blacksmith. The Library set followed a few days later as I had printed some of the free cabinets and was suitably impressed with the detail.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/hCfdRZt/20210101-153059.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/hCfdRZt/20210101-153059.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I made some cabinets with half the depth...</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div>The half-depth cabinets are very useful and use only half the resin...</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/nn3VNDj/20210101-154053.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/nn3VNDj/20210101-154053.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/bgCD8Hy/20210103-221237.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/bgCD8Hy/20210103-221237.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/31Rf90y/20210103-221228.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/31Rf90y/20210103-221228.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A few samples of the modular library set...</td></tr></tbody></table><br />The library set is extremely versatile and complete and allows me to print and build and almost infinite combination of cabinets... The detail is pretty good as well, adding nice touches like the carved owl.<p>The blacksmith's forge was a bit of a challenge as the full model is too large for the Elegoo MARS. I decided to reduce the size a bit, but the piece is still quite big and it will dominate any room it will be put in. Pictures will be coming soon...</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/61rdyW9/20201220-194945.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/61rdyW9/20201220-194945.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>The pieces for the tavern kitchen are very, very nice. I have been thinking about adding something like these for years... I have tried making my own, both with wood and plaster and digitally, but these are so much better. </p><p>All of these pieces print very well and more are sure to follow...</p></div>Tijnemanskehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06968254241375549569noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34800436453044114.post-24299103748365533402020-11-01T22:16:00.001+01:002020-11-01T22:16:30.430+01:003D-printing Feudal Guard... pt. VII<p>After the last update, I picked up the Feudal Guard Troop Transport (counts as Chimera)... The kit comes with just about all the options you could possibly want for a Chimera and is just as detailed as I have come to expect from TMC designs.</p><p>While the design of this kit is absolutely amazing (I think it's miles better than the GW kit I owned more than a decade ago, which is still being sold today, only at twice the price), I still felt the need to add a little personal twist.</p><p>For the Chimera I wanted a wheeled chassis. The wheels were found on <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4123402" target="_blank">Thingiverse</a> and were scaled to fit the hull of the Troop Transport. I also added a new hubcap, more in line with the rest of the design... </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibBYmtJvg9wy5JnvlYHqGnM0dMizS_ImmAVaXWPtlL2GQ1eAP0vKficBL532ZItwKcsy5mNIWSfFW9_zUcSm1-4Mv0uH4JlcWsV8NrlGky28b6SxEOnbyGKP2fVwhFwOfRJ96FnFVHDQ/s4032/20200829_135112.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2268" data-original-width="4032" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibBYmtJvg9wy5JnvlYHqGnM0dMizS_ImmAVaXWPtlL2GQ1eAP0vKficBL532ZItwKcsy5mNIWSfFW9_zUcSm1-4Mv0uH4JlcWsV8NrlGky28b6SxEOnbyGKP2fVwhFwOfRJ96FnFVHDQ/w400-h225/20200829_135112.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Big ass wheels instead of tracks...</td></tr></tbody></table><p>The last thing I changed, was placing a vent over the holes meant for the lasgun array. Can't help it, but I just don't like the way these look. I disliked them on the original model and, even though it looks better, I dislike them on this version. I cannot emphasize enough how big of an advantage this is as opposed to buying models like this in a box, where special components are always scarce... The same goes for the special weapons. For now, a meltagun and plasmagun are more than enough, but more of the same or different weapon options are readily available. I can remember, many years ago, before the convenience of online shopping, that I had great difficulty getting my hands on enough special weapons to equip my Guardsmen. Those particular blisters were never available and I ended up buying several command squad boxes for just those parts...</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxnHd5kqlPOV3TOqo9zEE4-o5W4pyMcxMS8XK-p4flg5veemDVq2bpKjFVlUFsfXKnW_dTpRXC_-isZFrYiUBcpcQSbLmpet8C0_jQp0uuLkOX183fxbEZrqub2LK5UeehfFFs1U4N_A/s4032/20200822_122453.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2268" data-original-width="4032" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxnHd5kqlPOV3TOqo9zEE4-o5W4pyMcxMS8XK-p4flg5veemDVq2bpKjFVlUFsfXKnW_dTpRXC_-isZFrYiUBcpcQSbLmpet8C0_jQp0uuLkOX183fxbEZrqub2LK5UeehfFFs1U4N_A/w400-h225/20200822_122453.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>These troopers will first be used in Kill Team, but ultimately I want this squad to be one of the first complete units for my new Astra Militarum force for 40K... While not very detailed (this kit was designed with FDM-printing in mind), the print upgraded a humble soda can to a piece of attractive and functional terrain. Because I had no 40K at the time, I donated this piece to a gaming buddy, who painted it and now uses it on his battlefield. </p><p>While browsing Thingiverse for terrain pieces to print I came across this very same upgrade kit again and thought of how it could be improved to make use of the capabilities of my Elegoo Mars.</p><p>I took more inspiration from <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3068446">another design</a> made by the same user (be sure to check him out as he has several cool upgrade kits). I ended up not using any of his components, but he inspired me all the same!</p><p>While I know my way around Tinkercad I lack the ability to draw intricate/organic designs, that's why I used two pieces from <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4522824">this set</a>. Using the gothic grate and the round fan I gradually worked towards creating a set of upgrade pieces. </p><p>I have three kinds of cans available, the standard soda/beer can (be it 0,33 or 0,5L) and two kinds of cans commonly used for energy drinks. Funny thing is, we don't drink soda, beer or energy drinks, so I ended up buying a couple of the cheapest cans I could find and poured the contents down the drain... </p><p>All these cans have different diameters and heights, but I wanted to create kits for them all. All kits are different, but share the same components to create an overall theme (I am a sucker for uniformity). To prevent ending up with a dozen identical terrain pieces, I made the upgrade kit modular, featuring several different versions of key components and several optional components. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; IIOh boy, the last couple of months were insanely busy, but with the start of my vacation I have finally found the time and energy to post something again...<div><br /></div><div>I have continued work on my Feudal Guard Kill Team.</div><div><br /></div><div>First of all, I redesigned my bases. The previous version wasn't as detailed as I wanted them to be so I tried something new... </div><div><br /></div><div>Many years ago, for my Empire army, I made several tiled bases with plasticard, which I then made a mold of to be able to cast them in high grade plaster... VI<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can never have too much loot... And that's why you can also never have too many loot piles. These piles are very versatile and can be used just about anywhere in the dungeon, they can be used to store/hide loot (well, they áre called loot piles for a reason) and serve as cover during sneaking or combat. If all else fails they just look good... </div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/T4MtjJy/20181117-203830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/T4MtjJy/20181117-203830.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is an overview of my current set of loot piles...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
These loot piles originally started out as barricades for Mordheim, but a year or so ago I updated and repainted them to enhance my dungeon. The base of each of these piles is a stack of home-cast plaster crates, the smaller and more detailed pieces are a mix of plaster, metal, plastic and resin parts.<br />
<br />
Having a 3D-printer opens up a lot of possibilities and the last couple of days I have spent some time putting together and printing a couple of complete loot piles and some separate pieces to further enhance the excisting loot piles.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13.9669px;">The first two, relatively simple, loot piles... <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13.9669px;">The third pile, also printed as a single piece... </td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

On Thingiverse there are a lot of interesting and usefull pieces that can be used for this purpose. Most of the new pieces are designed by a <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/eleode/designs" target="_blank">very friendly designer from France</a>. He designed the wicker baskets with tomatoes and apples, the bottles with a wicker shell, the bag of potatoes and the sacks... The wooden crates were found elsewhere on Thingiverse.<br />

IEven before I bought my Elegoo MARS 3D-printer I had stumbled across The Makersguild, three designers working together, mostly creating 40K related stuff. The designs of their Feudal Guard just blew me away...<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Feudal Guard infantry squad... Picture courtesy of The Makersguild...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I have played 40K, years ago, collecting sizable forces of Orks, Space Marines and Imperial Guard. All of these models are long gone, sold to other gamers, and I haven't played 40K in more than a decade...<br />
<br />
I have, however, picked up a couple of rulebooks in the last year or so, namely the rules for Kill Team and Necromunda. At the moment I have no intention of building an entire army, instead I will be printing a smaller skirmish force...<br />
<br />
I have also printed several Adeptus Astartes Space Marine miniatures over the last couple of weeks for the very same purpose, expect some pictures soon.<br />
<br />
My first project will be a set of Astra Militarum models for a Kill Team. To print/build this Kill Team I purchased the following files:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><a href="https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/feudal-guard-laser-gun-squad" target="_blank">Feudal Guard laser gun squad</a>; these guys will be used as standard Guardsmen.</li>
<li><a href="https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/feudal-guard-special-weapons-squad" target="_blank">Feudal Guard special weapons squad</a>; standard Guardsmen, but with all the shiny special weapons, very usefull for Kill Team!</li>
<li><a href="https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/feudal-guard-elite-infantry" target="_blank">Feudal Guard elite infantry squad</a>; these guys will be used as Scions/Kasrkin Storm Troopers, they come complete with all the options for special gear.</li>
<li><a href="https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/feudal-guard-skirmisher-team" target="_blank">Feudal Guard skirmisher team</a>; a set of snipers.</li>
<li><a href="https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/feudal-guard-abhumans" target="_blank">Feudal Guard abhumans</a>; a squad of Ogryns, clad in full plate...</li>
</ul>
While these files cost me about as much as a box of plastic Guardsmen would, I have a lot more options and I can print as many as I need/want/like... Apart from the skirmisher team, all these sets are completely modular and come with a wide selection of poses, heads and weapons.<br />
The designs are sharp, clean and all follow the same distinct style. While they lack the abundance of skulls and the Imperial Aquila you see on GW-miniatures, these are very well suited to serve as Astra Militarum (or Imperial Guard as I can't help calling them).<br />
<br />
Apart from one or two more delicate pieces, the models are very easy to print.<br />
<br />
So far I have printed about half a dozen miniatures and started painting the first test models.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The units are all just a little bit different but all share the same distinct style.<br />
<br />
My first impuls was to paint the armour in a metallic colour, give it a wash and call it a day. However, I quickly realised that would make them look like my Reiksguard on foot, only with lasguns instead of swords... So I opted for a more striking colour scheme, using bright orange, white and grey...<br />
<br />

I think the orange works quite well, especially because the armour covers such a large part of the model... I tried to add some battle damage to this test model, but I need to experiment a bit more with this technique.<br />

<br />
In keeping with their Medieval look I made a set of flagstone bases to go with these models. The bases are a simple re-mix of a stone texture I found on Thingiverse, cut to make 25mm and 40mm round bases. Should I want to expand this Kill Team into a full army (and let's be honest, we all know that's going to happen) it will be easy enough to make larger bases for the heavy weapons and the walkers...<br />

This model will be an excellent NPC but could just as easy be used as player. It has a lot of character and it printed flawlessly. I think he will be very fun to paint!<br />

While the paintjob is quite simple, these manage to look pretty good. I still have a lot more of these to paint, but so far I am very happy with how they turned out...<br />
<br />
I have also painted a round cabinet from VaeVictis. This model is from their Patreon and is part of their Magic Workshop set. The design comes in a couple of variants, one with empty shelves, one filled with books and potions and the option to print those as one piece or two separate parts (top and bottom).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6ymjU1GrEqowtCvliXmtwWafr3XxH5r6C5ocUSzQKq95fXRC78zhYcq_o9T4qSRBs_jgVztu2fleTbkjgSm7Yr5FsZKX72KQ5DK5by5hEktIpYDBUCTwSzfGYcQiZef4EWMiqtabdiA/s1600/20200427_192843.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6ymjU1GrEqowtCvliXmtwWafr3XxH5r6C5ocUSzQKq95fXRC78zhYcq_o9T4qSRBs_jgVztu2fleTbkjgSm7Yr5FsZKX72KQ5DK5by5hEktIpYDBUCTwSzfGYcQiZef4EWMiqtabdiA/s640/20200427_192843.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
I had printed the empty version previously and painted it last week. Due to the detail of this piece the painting was fast, easy and yielded a pretty nice result. This weekend I printed a couple more pieces. I made them a little bit larger, by accident, but as it turned out, the larger scale works very well...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlOcGK4p_aLTNy9tPRuiClKjMZeNbqqjOVhoVz0NszPI7SBOk-Khx2CWhRg1PxrVUpgCz1cyy06bCK4S1_gTXJt6QUe1jAtNeOQcUomny1ptTh7fZllILcWdxLzwaFzFuAjtfhkgIhzA/s1600/20200427_192629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlOcGK4p_aLTNy9tPRuiClKjMZeNbqqjOVhoVz0NszPI7SBOk-Khx2CWhRg1PxrVUpgCz1cyy06bCK4S1_gTXJt6QUe1jAtNeOQcUomny1ptTh7fZllILcWdxLzwaFzFuAjtfhkgIhzA/s400/20200427_192629.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Apart from printing these ready-made pieces I have tried to digitally kit-bash some unique combinations. These digital conversions were inspired by this piece from <a href="https://zealotminiatures.com/zealot-shop/#!/Map-Table/p/82421359/category=23326032" target="_blank">Zealot Miniatures</a>. I purchased this table a year or two ago during the last expansion of dungeon clutter but I haven't painted it yet.<br />

<br />
The first attempt at creating something like this was relatively simple. Below you can see the original design I came up with, using a round table and castle, both of which I found on Thingiverse.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQyk40sONEEFy65LCrJLloAhkbGjXSn-zCEraDrwF_rZGeYyzbnF9Uqkaqr_yuzfe9TCwehn-C0uFgVGHoVkgstto6MKhEqSWVp_rQVUHgm3abonA7rVBIUCzi8hVQDsSa7_4Ls3u0cQ/s1600/20200427_192814.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQyk40sONEEFy65LCrJLloAhkbGjXSn-zCEraDrwF_rZGeYyzbnF9Uqkaqr_yuzfe9TCwehn-C0uFgVGHoVkgstto6MKhEqSWVp_rQVUHgm3abonA7rVBIUCzi8hVQDsSa7_4Ls3u0cQ/s400/20200427_192814.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The first design... </td></tr>

While the first two models are fictional designs, the third is a modelled after an actual, real castle: Neuschwanstein castle... It can be found in Bavaria, Germany and was built for/by order of king Ludwig II in the late 19th century. This castle formed a source of inspiration for Disney's Cinderella castle...<br />

<br />
The base for these conversions comes from VaeVictis. I split the bottom half of the model (the base is from the round cabinets) and removed a layer of drawers to lower the top surface. This allowed me to make the castles as large as possible to preserve as much detail as I could.<br />
<br />
The castles in these prints are all created by very talented designers and are all incredibly detailed. However, I had to scale down the designs considerably and some of the detail was lost because of that.<br />

<a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2907052" target="_blank">Neuschwanstein castle</a><br />
<br />
The idea behind these designs is that an NPC could have a model of a castle in his study. Maybe it's just for show, it could be a toy or maybe it could even be magical, who knows... Such an item could be very interesting when it comes to RPG's...<br />
<br />
Here you can see the first, failed print of the fancy fantasy castle... Due to the delicate nature of the design some of the finer details were lost or failed to print entirely. After curing the model even split open due to uncured resin being left inside...<br />

IVWhile digging through Thingiverse, something I started doing on a daily basis now I have my Elegoo MARS, I found a set of <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4074343" target="_blank">medieval suits of armour</a>. According to the creator, these are from Fable III, which would explain why I felt I had seen them before.<br />
<br />
Immediately I thought of filling the halls of my dungeon with these pieces...<br />
<br />
The first print turned out too small (my own doing as I scaled the model to 35mm), in this smaller scale the sword proved too thin to be printed properly. To fix this I imported the file in Tinkercad and put in another sword I thickened considerably.<br />
<br />
Compared to the first print I further enlarged the next batch by 15%, bringing the suits of armour more in line with the rest of my dungeon furniture.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/vXNYVSZ/IMG-20200419-WA0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/vXNYVSZ/IMG-20200419-WA0001.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The suit of armour in the middle is one from the first batch, both the models<br />
on the outside are from the last print. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
When compared to a miniature the suits of armour look a bit oversized, but next to the other pieces of furniture they look just right.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/GkmkFXX/20200419-190640.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/GkmkFXX/20200419-190640.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The suit of armour comes in two variants, one with a sword and one without... </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.ibb.co/zNhkTBw/20200419-190626.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/zNhkTBw/20200419-190626.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I printed 24 suits of armour in two prints of 12 each...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I based the suits of armour on small, round MDF bases. The small bases allow easy placement all throughout the dungeon.<br />
<br />
Below are a couple of examples of how I want to use these.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.ibb.co/wLLBpdH/20200419-190836.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/wLLBpdH/20200419-190836.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.ibb.co/4SsC90F/20200419-190801.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/4SsC90F/20200419-190801.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.ibb.co/1fqSNm0/20200419-190726.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://i.ibb.co/1fqSNm0/20200419-190726.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The small, recessed arches are a perfect fit for these armours, but because they have such a small footprint they can be placed just about anywhere. I hope these new pieces will add to the medieval atmosphere I am trying to create for my dungeon.<br />
<br />
I will be painting these soon...Tijnemanskehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06968254241375549569noreply@blogger.com0
